Beauty Blunders and Your Personal Style

We all have beauty blunders now and then. You remember them well later! When you look back at photos of your life. The bad hair styles or colors we’ve all experienced. The color trends which you wear, which don’t look great on you, but you wear anyways. The under eye concealer, which stood out instead of concealed. We all have had periods in our lives, when we have taken fashion risks. Only sometimes you look back and realize, it was not a good fashion choice for you. Later we look back and think it was a big mistake. You may of somewhat wondered at the time, if you should do it? You took the chance and did it anyway. Only with regrets later.

As you grow and mature you often you will have less fashion and beauty blunders. As you grow you come into your own personal style. You better understand, the extremes just may not be for you. Somewhere in the middle is a safe place to be. Not too conservative or too wild, either way may lead to a place, you don’t want to be.

How do you develop you own personal style? How does an item or a piece of clothing make you feel, is a good first question to ask yourself? So if you feel comfortable when you wear it? You may be on the right track with finding your own personal style. Look through magazines for ideas. what types of styles are you drawn to? Which styles fit your body type? Which colors look best on you? These are all great questions to ask yourself. Consult a specialist in fashion and seek out a make artist for tips to put you on the right track, if you really need the advice? A quick consult may really save you a great deal of time and money in the end.

We truly don’t have”down time” day to day and the time to pamper ourselves. We’ll it’s truly hard to come by extra time. To take the time to pamper ourselves occasionally, but it’s truly necessary. Our health and well being is just too important to ignore, so many of us are very stressed and don’t take actions to combat the stress properly.

With being a mother and primary care taker for your family, there is no vacation time, sick days or paid leave. So when we have a illness happen or if we have just an off day, the whole family can be effected. So what can we do to help our own health to continue to be the best mothers? One thing we can do is just to try and reduce our own stress. We all have stress, it may be at different levels. The source of our stress my come from different sources, but it does exist. Stress has a physiological effect on our bodies. Many illnesses have been directly linked to be stress related.

Stress has been linked to:

So in what way can we reduce our stress? You can reduce your stress by –

* Read up on the source of your stress. For example – If you have business problems seek out books and read up on it. Seek out a business counseling service, if the problem continues.

* Gain control of your situation. We can change our lives for the better by changing it up.

* Take regular vacations. Even if you can’t take a full vacation, go away for a full weekend. It could make a huge difference in your stress.

* Use daily affirmations. Affirmations posted around your home help – “I am stronger than anything I face” or “I am at peace, calm within and strong”

* Try meditation. Meditation has an amazing effect on the body.

* Talk it out with a therapist. Whatever is causing your stress, may be something which may last for a while. A therapist may help you to put your stess in perspective.

* Sleep more. Get enough sleep every night.

* Talk it out. Talk to your friends about your stress. They may be able to help you with it or how you feel about it.

* Seek out spiritual help. Contact your religious group in your area for advice, if you feel you need to talk it out.

Small steps such as seeking out lower sodium foods can really help with your overall health. Larger steps such as joining a gym or investing in exercise equipment can come now or later. Often the smaller steps will lead you to larger ones later.

I AM NOT SUPERWOMAN

5 on Friday
Although I like to cook, I don’t always have time to prepare an “elaborate” meal for my family. Often times I find shortcuts, cut corners, substitute here and there in order to prepare something that is not only delicious and healthy (ier) but also less time consuming in the kitchen (while also staying on budget).

I am starting a new *series* if you want to call it that where every Friday I am going to post a recipe (s) that only require Five Ingredients (cooking oil/spray,spices, water, salt & pepper are freebies).

This will hopefully get you going for your menu planning for the following week.

I will start the series off with the meal I prepared last night…Beef & Broccoli.

Ingredients
1-2 lb thin cut steak (I often times by Beef for Stir Fry and/or have butcher slice the meat; meat at Albertsons was BOGO this week) **Lower cost alternative would be the Carne Asada Beef**
1 lb broccoli florets (fresh or frozen; I used the steamable bags of broccoli since on sale at Albertsons for $1.25/each)
1 large onion (diced)
2 tablespoons of soy sauce mixed with 3/4 cup of water
1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in soy sauce/water (for thickening)
Freebie: Water, Vegetable Oil or Olive Oil

1 Coat pan with 2 tablespoons of oil.
2 Stir in beef and onion , let cook until golden brown on med heat, stirring frequently (apporx 10-15 mins)
3 Prepare sauce in medium bowl
4 Blanch the broccoli in a small pot of boiling water OR throw in microwave if steamables but do not cook entirely (4-7 mins).
5 Once meat is golden brown, add broccoli & sauce
6 Cook covered on med heat for 10-15 mins longer stirring frequently while the sauce settles into the beef and broccoli.

Serves 6 (we even had leftovers)

Pair with a side of Asian salad (Lettuce, Cucumber, Mandarin Oranges, Asian Noodles & Kraft Asian Toasted Sesame Dressing) OR Rice and you have yourself dinner!

Holiday Weight Gain and How to Prevent It

The holidays are a time of year when we’re all really challenged by the food around us! It’s by far the worst time of year, for many of us who are trying to be good. Those of us on a healthy eating plans are also really challenged too. This time of year is hard for everyone even if your a seasoned fitness professional, a health and wellness guru or not. We all have foods which are “off” of our lists as regularly consumable foods. Whether we know it or not, we all have a subconscious mental list of foods we view as “OK” to consume regularly. At this time of year it’s increasingly challenging to be confronted and visually challenged almost daily by the “Not OK” foods.

I find it very hard to walk into the office lunch room and find a table of cookies, brownies, pies and pudding desserts and not at least have a little, we all do. The key is trying them and limiting your intake to smaller quantities, so you don’t totally fall off of your healthy living plan. The key is learning to limit your intake, but not to deny yourself.

We often will say to ourselves, “I’ll eat this then go exercise afterward” If you make the promise to yourself and follow through. If you do let yourself indulge, in the desserts follow up with a lot of exercise afterward. You’ll feel much better about yourself afterward.

We can’t live life in a vacuum, if you think you can, your fooling yourself. We need to put the food around us in perspective, we are in charge not the food! We need to be accountable for our actions and need to develop a health relationship with food. Food needs viewed in the perspective as energy and nutrition. Food is not and should not be viewed as emotional fulfillment.

As many people have, I gone up and down with my weight from having children and sports injuries over the years. The holidays each year as almost a turning point in the year. Use this time of the year to re-evaluate yourself, where are you now? Where do you want to be? How you want your new year to start? Do you want your new year started on the right or wrong foot? You decide.
