The kids going back to school means more time for some of us Mom’s. For those of us with all school age kids, we can now get a little pampering in peace and quiet. The kids going to school means we are forced to have a slight routine. Even those like me that cringe at a normal schedule. lol Now you need to make yourself part of that normal routine.
I know that everyone has heard about getting up a little earlier to enjoy your cup of tea or coffee in peace before the start of the day. I too like this option. But alas, I’m a sleeper and not a morning person. So I’d also like to throw an night option at you. Do you have guilt about your tv shows? Why? lol Put the kids to bed and enjoy your silly/trashy/brainless tv show in the evening. To assuage any guilt I may have I only watch 1 show without doing anything, then any other shows I will fold laundry, do dishes, etc.
Another option I really like is a bath once a week right after lunch. The house is quiet, I’ve done some errands, and it feels purely indulgent to take a mid day bath. lol Sinfully indulgent as a matter of fact. Load up your favorite bubbles or salts and a ton of candles. Give it a try and see how it lifts your spirits for the rest of the day.
Go read at the park. Parks don’t mean just kids toys. Pack up a picnic lunch, a good book or magazine and go enjoy the greenery at your local park. Peace and quiet at it’s most natural. The only thing to annoy you is the sound of the birds.
Home spa day is also an incredible thing. Grab your favorite mask, pedicure and manicure stuff, and go to town. Take a few hours a month and really do it right. It’s inexpensive and rejuvenating. Even better, get a friend and enjoy gabbing while you sit with mud masks on soaking your feet.
Movies and take-out. This is one of my favorite things to do during the day. I go to my favorite sushi place and grab some long rolls. I then watch a chick flick in peace curled up on the couch. Me time at it’s finest!
Whatever your favorite way to unwind is, make a point of enjoying it. Don’t feel guilty about it. You’ll be a much happier person for taking care of you here and there.
