4 Benefits of Soy Candles

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

The 4 benefits of soy candles are scent, burn time, non-toxic and the environment. To explain this better, the candles are made of soybeans, which are natural, rather than paraffin wax, which can be toxic, sooty and burns hot and fast.

The environmental benefits of soy candles are that you will not have the strong smell of soot or walls covered with a film of soot. The candles burn cleaner and are not toxic. The paraffin wax candles can cause toxicants in the air if you burn too many at a time. The soy candles have ninety percent less soot. If you have breathing, problems the soy candles are better for your lungs.

Another benefit of soy candles is that they burn longer than most wax candles. It is possible for a soy candle to burn three times longer than a wax candle. The scent is also stronger with a soy candle than it is with the wax candles. The benefits of soy candles will benefit you more than a wax candle will.

Homespun Hearts

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

A couple of months ago I placed ordered from an adorable looking site called Homespun Hearts Grubby and Prim Candles. I didn’t burn a lot in the last couple of weeks because it’s unusually hot here in Seattle and we’ve been on vacations.

I ordered 2 jar candles. 1 in snickerdoodle and the other banana bread. Now I am not a fan of banana stuff, so I was a little leery of that choice. But I let me daughter help choose the scents. lol

Snickerdoodle tends to be a scent I go with for many companies to give a try. It gives me a stock scent to compare. I have to say that this one held up pretty well. To be fair, it is Summer and there are so many windows. It’s not like during the Winter when the house is in lockdown. So, it’s really hard for me to compare the scent throw. But I do have the last of it burning right now and I can smell it behind the scenes so that is a very good thing with the house wide open tonight. The scent is nice and mellow like snickerdoodle should be. Not overpowering at all. But still a decent scent throw. The scent is not a cheap scent either. It’s quality oils and wax that I am smelling.

The banana didn’t have a very strong scent throw I have to say. I burned that in the kids bathroom so it was a small room that should have been totally stunk up with it. But not so much. It did have a nice mellow scent, but not the powerful one I expected upon opening the lid of the candle.

Now Tamara also included a tart with my order and I’m afraid I forgot what the scent is. Which really is annoying because I want to order it now. The tart blew both the candles out of the water for scent throw. I don’t know that I’ve ever melted a tart that was so powerful with scent. I LOVED IT!

All said and done. I will order from Homespun Hearts Grubby and Prim Candles again. Between the awesome customer service, fast order delivery and quality products I’m looking forward to trying some other scents. I’m really dieing to try out the cookie tarts. They are very cute and I know I’m probably just a pyro-weirdo, but it’s cool to watch the fake food stuff melt down.

Quick Mommy Time Out

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

It’s such a luxury to be able to pamper myself after a long day at the office or a day spent shopping at the local mall. After getting the family fed, the kids in bed and the house quiet, I like to take a nice long bubble bath, light a couple of candles and enjoy a good book. At that moment, I am surrounded by my favorite scent of Cucumber Melon, the flickering light of the melon scented candles sooth my soul and I get lost in the chapters of my book. Its times like that when I can imagine I am the queen of my own castle and the stressors of the world just melt away. I come out smelling lovely, feeling sexy and refreshed!

Update on chocolatey votive

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

I just NEEDED to post an update about the chocolatey votive I found in my sample box. It was heavenly to the end. It literally burned to the bottom of the container and that is what I always look for. I have a ton of pretty votive containers, but they are impossible to dig wax out of. So I am very particular and NEVER put other votives in them. Well this brand earns the seal of approval! It can go in any of my containers with no issue.

I’ve never found another votive that burned down so low. I love it! Go to www.thingsthatmakescents.com and order yours now. I promise you will not be sorry!

mmm, chocolatey votive

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

I dug into the sample box in my closet to find a votive to burn.  I am running seriously low!  AHHHH

But I was blessed to find one votive in the box.  It’s listed as wacky soy votive, but that is not the scent.  I can’t find that scent on the site.  lol  It has a hint of fruit when cold, but then as soon as I lit it it just smelled up the house up of chocolate!  Like WOW chocolate!  Only one votive in my master bathroom is filling up my 1700 sq. ft. house.  I swear!

I am thinking it may be the strawberries and chocolate scent because it did have a red layer at the top of the votive.

Check out www.thingsthatmakescents.com for all their soy candle products.  Votives, tarts, jar candles and more.  Good long scent, well worth the money.  I’m researching how well it burns at the end.  But that will take until tomorrow.  My test is always getting the last of the wax out of the bottom of special containers.  If I can do that, then it passes all tests and gets ordered!

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Who doesn’t need to relax more? Definitely every Mom I know. I’m really wanting a bubble bath surrounded by candles tonight.

Prairie Soy Candles has come out with a wonderful new relaxation scent designed with us Mommy’s in mind. Relaxation is a wonderful blend of fragrance and essential oils. A warm blend of fresh picked lavender flowers and just a hint of musk to top it off. It’s sure to put you into the right frame of mind to deal with your day-to-day.

Makes Scents tarts

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

These samples that were sent are huge! I loved seeing that because it meant I’d truly get a chance to see how the scent throws.

tarts

The scents that were scent are not one’s that I would choose, but alas I can still give a good review. The scent gets out there and fast. The 10k diamond is burning right now and it smells like my daughters lotion. lol There is a light floral scent going throughout the house. They both were highly scented and I love that of course. It makes the tarts an incredible deal.

Things that Make Scents also has a retail location in Manasquan, New Jersey. There are a lot of scents and styles to choose from. The site is very clean and easy to navigate as well. I’d highly recommend trying these soy candles and tarts.

Black Raspberry Vanilla tart

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

I do love tarts. It’s so quick to change them out of my tart burner. I can put them in a baggy and reuse them on another day if I just got tired of the scent but the scent wasn’t gone quite yet.

Unfortunately this was a tart I was a little disappointed in. The scent was the strongest coming out of the box and that got me excited to burn it right away. lol But unfortunately the scent did not carry very well when melted. I had to stand right next to it in order to get a hint of scent. I am picky about my candles because I burn so many of them. Now the wax burned very quickly, so the light scent was thrown quick and that was great. But it just wasn’t enough scent for my tastes. Possibly a different scent would be better for me to try, this just may have been too light of a scent for the size of my living room.

tart

After visiting Ugly Duckling Designs I am totally going to see if I can’t hook up with another scent instead. There are the most adorable tarts in bakery shapes that I’ve GOT to try! lol There are many different products on the site besides candles. Enjoy shopping!

Strawberries and Cream

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

I don’t know about your area, but here we are already getting in fresh strawberries at my local produce stand. MMMM, we had the first strawberry shortcake and whip cream this week!

My diet won’t allow me to have this every day, but my senses would be so much happier smelling it. Prairie Soy Candles newly added scent is Strawberries and Cream. Such a wonderful blend of fresh strawberries and rich vanilla cream. You can purchase this scent in any size jar candle or in the tarts.

Indulgence with no guilt. Is there anything better?

Mini Muffin Tarts

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

OH WOW, HOW CUTE!

Mini Muffin Tart
When I opened my sampler box, this was immediately what my eye went to. Not only is it one of my perfect scents, basically anything with a cinnamon note to it will get me excited in a candle. lol But gosh darn if that isn’t the cutest little marketing tool. Not only is it a cute little muffing, but it’s two tone colored as well. Work went into the color scheme and I haven’t even talked about the scent yet.

The scent included in my sampler was Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Clove. Wow, they really knew how to grab me quick. lol All my yummy bakery scents rolled into one little tart. Now I received one tart and this one little tart was fully scented for over 20 hours of burn time. These mini muffins come in packs of 4 for only $1.75. Considering that one little tart filled up my main living space of approx. 700 sq. ft. for over 20 burn hours, I can’t imagine what a few of them melting would do. And all that scent for such a low price tag. Makes it easy to grab different scents!

Visit Tara’s Scentsational Gifts for all the yummy flavors to choose from.
