Enjoy your Summer – Make it Special
Summer is a wonderful time to spend extra time with your family bonding and enjoying new experiences. Try mixing it up with some new activities, so you’ll have fresh new experiences to share. We moms mostly feel the same about having the kids home for the summer. One one hand we love having extra time to enjoy the children, but it’s often much more work with having them home.
Please try and relax. Try to enjoy the experience of having them home. Make this year special over all the other years. They will not be at home forever and it would be nice to some day remember the great summers you shared with your kids.
Don’t sweat the small stuff. It all can be cleaned up and put back in place once the kids are back on track in the fall. They’re only children once.

Not Your Ordinary Father’s Day Ties
Author: Matt of Tiepedia.com
It may surprise some of you to hear what I am about to say, but it must be said. Not all guys want a tie on Father’s Day. GASP! I know, I know, it sounds crazy… and I certainly am not one of those guys, but apparently it’s true.
Listen to what Joseph Hurtado has to say, “there are only two types of men: those who hate ties, and those who grudgingly accept them as part of the job.”
Blasphemy as far as I am concerned, but if you’re Mrs. Hurtado you may want to think twice about getting Joseph a tie for Father’s Day. How about baking him a delicious necktie cake instead? I don’t think many men could resist that. Here are some sweet examples for you to consider! (Congrats to the cake artists who created these!)

Hard Moments of Being a Parent – Zen it!
Every have those times when you wish you were anywhere but in the moment? Your child has done something very bad and you really want to freak out. We have all had them. It may happen when your incredibly embarrassed by your child’s behavior in public. It may happen when you get called into school for something your child did at school. We have all had a moments when it has been incredibly hard to be a parent.
I have been trying to really put things in perspective, before overreacting. Zen my parenting style if you would The brain doesn’t process things properly at first. Your first reaction is an emotional one. In hard moments your brain can’t process things in an unemotional way. Your natural reaction is an emotional one. Practice some mindfulness in your parenting, you and your child will be happier. Slow down and think before you respond too harshly. Words can forever hurt a child.
Lowering your Standards to Happiness
So how has your life has changed by becoming a mother? I hope your answer is not that you have given up your sanity, happiness and wellness.
Do you still try to do all you did before children? Are you a mom who kills yourself, not being willing to give into the kids mess at all? I know many moms who never let go at all. Are you one?
How have your priorities changed? Have you started taking things off your “to do list” yet? Sometimes you need to completely let go and it’s great. Take some time off from your schedule! Your own mental health and wellness need you to lower your standards, believe it or not!
You can change your thinking and let go! You’ll be much happier if you do! You will not die if you eat a later than 6 PM, skipped a few days of laundry and take some time off for yourself!
Some of us view the glass half empty and some view it half full? How do you view your life now as a mom?
By becoming a mother your life has certainly changed. I know my life is entirely different. Different doesn’t have to be bad you just need to lighten up and enjoy the difference.
Enjoy your life and relax! How can you lower your standards to happiness?
Stress – How We Differ from Across the Pond
European countries have it right on the life-work balance. We all want it in America, but none of us or too few of us have it. So many studies have been done on happiness and stress.
European countries are at the top, for places to live for happiness, why? The countries in Europe take long vacations, have shorter work weeks, have longer maternity leaves, and all have something in common – happier, healthier people.
I have been thinking more and more about healthy living as of late. I wanted to share some thoughts. I have been thinking about the mind body connection and health. Did you know your stress can kill you, if you let it! I want to some day dance at my childrens’ weddings and my grand childrens’, if God is willing. I’m sure you do too.
The more I think, the more I realize, we are really mess up with our views. Our view of work, relaxation and life in this county is very distorted. The way we want our lives to be, our view how it should be and what we are truly living are exact opposites. We have very distorted views on how life should be in this country. We have it wrong in this country, really, really wrong. We are a “live in the moment” country of people, we think just about the here and now, not down the road. Ask yourself down the road will I be healthy? What can I do today to improve the odds?
In our culture we work, work, work – so we can – buy, buy, buy. So you work more and harder to have a nicer house, drive fancier cars, better schools for your children, better quality health care, better food on the table, and take some fancier vacations. Well it’s all fun and great, but have you ever thought about what all the working is doing to your health. What good is all of it if you die young from hurting your health, by being too stressed.
In European cultures they are a little like us, but the big difference is the vacation time or some call it holiday time over there.
I have friends who are from Europe and their whole approach to living, is more natural and thought out than ours. We are a fast food and rushed country in everything we do. Now I know this is just based on a handful of friends watching them and reading some studies, but I really do like the more natural approach to living.
My European friends will ride their bike to get a few things at the store. I fly in my car there and back.
My European friends have herb gardens and fresh produce. They have taken the time to grown themselves. Mine are dried or shoved in a can or frozen with lovely freezer burn.
My European friends really are much happier than us Americans. I really do think they know more, about how to be happy. So where along the way we have lost this natural living way of being and living?
So how did we as a country get this way and what can we do to change it? Food for thought.
