Blackberry Sage

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

The only thing I like about this time of year is it’s officially candle season. lol I am not a fan of the leaves changing and I’m definitely not a fan of it getting cold. Being up here in Seattle, it just means I have 9-10 months of rain to look forward to. But alas, the bright side. Literally! My candles are being lit in every room, in multiple places. Instead of just in a couple of spots like I do all Summer long. True candles addicts do not just burn during the cold months.

As I patiently wait the arrival of the holiday scents, Prairie Soy Candles has given me a yummy new scent to try. Blackberry sage has strong top notes of tart blackberries, mulberries, and orange zests; middle notes of nutmeg, rose petals; bottom notes of fresh green sage leaves, red clover, and a dry down of vanilla. This is close enough to a holiday scent to get me baking. I love fruity scents and bakery scents are my favorite. But this combination with the citrus added is going to make the house smell so wonderful. It may just become your holiday scent of choice. But I doubt it when the new scents are unveiled here next month. lol

Fitness Spas: More than Just Massages and Facials

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

There used to be a time when fitness spas were more about being pampered than becoming fit. You went there to to relax and be spoiled with mud wraps and massages. Today, although there are many spas which still offer this kind of amenity, more women are choosing spas in which they can be taught to change their lifestyle. They want to become healthier and lose weight at the same time.

Health and fitness spas have taken it upon themselves to empower women to change their eating habits and to feel good about themselves as well. A healthy way of living has become the focus of women around the world, and fitness spas have approached good health and dieting with a new purpose. Of course they are also still teaching you to take care of yourself, so some minor or major pampering will still happen. You will just have healthy smoothies instead of glasses of wine.

Attending a fitness spa allows a woman not only to relax and enjoy the spa experience, but also to focus on strategies which can be utilized later on in conquering weight gain, self-image concerns, and behavior which contributes to their growing anxiety over weight loss.

Perhaps the positive results gained from attending a fitness spa for a weekend is due to the fact that there are no demands being placed on the woman. For two days, there are no phone calls, family tugging at your sleeve, errands to run, a house to clean, or shopping at the supermarket. The mind is no longer cluttered with thoughts of lists unfinished or tasks undone.

Instead, the entire focus of the weekend is on you and you alone. Time is taken to regroup, reenergize, and find the balance within. You can focus on a healthy routine and get habits in place before having to go back to your real world. Also as a participant in a fitness spa, you will learn new techniques; new principles to apply to your lifestyle that will enhance the way you feel and become the catalyst for change.

While weight loss is a part of the fitness and health spa experience, feeling like a new person who has become empowered to improve your overall being is an experience every woman should enjoy in their lifetime.

Go to the Spa

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Oh I know I have talked about the kids going back to school and the inexpensive ways you can pamper yourself here recently. But nothing beats a trip to the salon. Facials, mud wraps, highlights, massage and more. Ahhh, I’m half asleep just thinking of the joy.

Have you ever checked out what spa’s are around you? You’d be surprised at how many there are. I know recently I went to Spa Finder to see how many were around me. Now yes I live close to Seattle and expected to get a lot of links to the big city. But what I wasn’t ready for was all the links to spa’s so much closer to me. I will now be able to runaway to a spa and not have a commute. Not only that, but I can buy a gift certificate for my Mom to use. There is no way she would drive into Seattle.

Back to School

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

The kids going back to school means more time for some of us Mom’s.  For those of us with all school age kids, we can now get a little pampering in peace and quiet.  The kids going to school means we are forced to have a slight routine.  Even those like me that cringe at a normal schedule.  lol  Now you need to make yourself part of that normal routine.

I know that everyone has heard about getting up a little earlier to enjoy your cup of tea or coffee in peace before the start of the day.  I too like this option.  But alas, I’m a sleeper and not a morning person.  So I’d also like to throw an night option at you.  Do you have guilt about your tv shows?  Why?  lol  Put the kids to bed and enjoy your silly/trashy/brainless tv show in the evening.  To assuage any guilt I may have I only watch 1 show without doing anything, then any other shows I will fold laundry, do dishes, etc.

Another option I really like is a bath once a week right after lunch.  The house is quiet, I’ve done some errands, and it feels purely indulgent to take a mid day bath.  lol  Sinfully indulgent as a matter of fact.  Load up your favorite bubbles or salts and a ton of candles.  Give it a try and see how it lifts your spirits for the rest of the day.

Go read at the park.  Parks don’t mean just kids toys.  Pack up a picnic lunch, a good book or magazine and go enjoy the greenery at your local park.  Peace and quiet at it’s most natural.  The only thing to annoy you is the sound of the birds.

Home spa day is also an incredible thing.  Grab your favorite mask, pedicure and manicure stuff, and go to town.  Take a few hours a month and really do it right.  It’s inexpensive and rejuvenating.  Even better, get a friend and enjoy gabbing while you sit with mud masks on soaking your feet.

Movies and take-out.  This is one of my favorite things to do during the day.  I go to my favorite sushi place and grab some long rolls.  I then watch a chick flick in peace curled up on the couch.  Me time at it’s finest!

Whatever your favorite way to unwind is, make a point of enjoying it.  Don’t feel guilty about it.  You’ll be a much happier person for taking care of you here and there.
